This spice preparation originally comes from the slums of Johannesburg, where this spicy mixture of spices was mixed into the vegetable stew and served with bread. Chakalaka is a very complex spice mixture, the number of ingredients is very high, which is why it covers so many different flavors.

The Chalalaka spice mixture is an African specialty that you can use for many things, whether as a tomato, fiery barbecue sauce for grilled meat, steaks, sausages, raclette, chips or tacos. To do this, you simply have to stir your Chakalaka mixture into ketchup until it reaches the desired consistency. You can just as well use it to make a creamy dip for 3-4 teaspoons per 200g mass or use it to marinate your grilled food such as fish, meat or scampis
Tips & Tricks:
For the original Chakalaka butter for grilling, simply mix 7-9 tsp to 200g of soft butter with a fork and put the whole thing in the fridge to steep until it is firm again.
